http://www.artefactgroup.com/wvil/ I want one! It's only a concept but it looks sexy and delivers full SLR optics to a mobile smart phone. The lens detaches when not in use before you ask. It also would be expandable through different apps the same way smart phones are and you can share images you take instantly. Quite simply it's where camera's should be going and I haven't even mentioned that the camera still takes pictures with the lens detached by linking wirelessly.

Ooh I love the idea of this app for the iPad. Maybe I should get one after all? Djay on the iPad obviously has it's flaws compared to a multi sound-carded Mac; being able to play music from different channels being the main one. But audio beatmatching aside I still think this is great and the auto beat-matching feature makes it great for novices like myself.

At first glance you'd be forgiven in thinking that this idea is a bit shit. But the idea that a watch is also an iPod, Multi-Touch, color display, long battery life, MP3, radio, photos, pedometer and Nike+ is quite cool. I love my iPhone but it's a bit of a pain holding on to whilst running unless you get one of thos stupid armbands. And you'll never be stuck without music. And it comes in red too! Think Creature Comforts meets embarrassing bodies "Get Well Soon" makes you wince as you laugh. It's based on real interviews conducted with regulars at the The Clock House on Leather Lane in East London, the project captures examples of personal injury including impalings, drive-by assaults, sex injuries, and even people ironing their own legs. Ouch.
The project premieres in London at Shoreditch club XOYO on 2nd December, but if you can’t wait to wince, check out a short selection of clips above.

I know cyclists are despised on the roads, but this time of year it's really tough. First you have to contend with the weather, then there's pedestrians and cars pulling out in front of you. I've got 2 bright lights and now lots of reflective Scotchlite stickers (including the design above) and STILL I'm invisible. I've just added red LED valve caps that come on when it's dark and there's movement. I'm hoping I'm going to be a bit more visible now with red illuminated flashing wheels like this guy below...

Robot Romance "I'm here" by Spike Jonze

I've just come across this short 30 minute film by Spike Jonze. Jonze is an idol of mine ever since I first saw the Beastie Boys 'Sabotage' and Weezer's 'Buddy Holly' music videos. He's also the main man behind TV show Jackass and full-length-feature-films 'Where the wild things are' and 'Being John Malcovich'.

'I'm here' is about an alternative world where robots live among the rest of the human population. It has an eerie sub-context that although sometimes dark, makes you wish the world was really like this.

New Daft Punk tune?

I can't wait for the Tron Legacy film especially since I heard the soundtrack is to be composed by Daft Punk. I stumbled across this track the other day which supposedly is a leaked tune from said soundtrack. Whether it is or not the French Robots and whether it is pr not from the Tron Legacy OST remains to be seen (or heard?). But it certainly sounds like it could tick both boxes and got me excited about this film all over again.

With the recent hype surrounding Apples latest must have gadg, I was interested in how magazines and in particular how graphic design may evolve onto such devices. With the faux page curls, slightly textured paper of the iBook app on the iPad I think Apple have gone for a bit of a cheesy design UI. Bonnier and their prototype Mag+ system of design have got it pretty much nailed in my opinion.

The legendary Director / Producer / Screenwrite John Hughes has sadly died. His films are still among my favourites and I dread to think how many times I watched Weird Science or Ferris Bueller. Street Fighter II Youtube Edition

This is quite impressive, there must be hundreds of predetermined movies on Youtube for this game. Just using video, PatrickBoivin has come up with a method of playing Street Fighter II. You click a button on the left to do a move and it jumps to another movie and then another until someone wins. Not quite as fun as I remember it, but at least I didn't blow all my pocket money. Now that's wet my appetite I hope Street Fighter 4 delivers, it looks stunning.

Garage Studios is a new Photography Studio right here in Brighton and I've been keeping up to date with their Flickr right here. So I was really excited when their darker more creative sibling DeadDeadDead launched their website with this ace photo yesterday... right in time for Halloween too. Check out the video of the set build here it's amazing how much effort went into it.

I designed the logo for Garage Studios (below) as a favour. I love it in Black and White but must admit to not being much of a fan of it in pink, but hey I'm sure they'll do well and pink is soooo Brighton baby.

Designer Drugs and Little Boots

Great 80s twist on Little Boots' "Meddle" has just surfaced in my inbox. The 80s coke jam remix is a bit dancier, bit more electro and bit more up tempo.

The original "...was co-written by Greg Kurstin (producer of Lily Allen/Kylie Minogue/etc and one half of Bird And The Bee) and Joe Goddard of Hot Chip, with production by Joe as well. It’s the “Designer Drugs ‘80s Coke Jam Remix,” which really isn’t that far off from the vibe of this remix."

Meddle will appear on the Arecibo EP along with Stuck On Repeat (and the great Fake Blood remix) and is out mid November on digital and 12" on I AM SOUNDS records.

Today the Black Ghosts release "Repetition Kills You" a track featuring guest vocals from Damon Albarn of Blur and Gorillaz fame.

The song itself is quite good. Like the rest of the album it is produced well and has a catchy poppy feel. After Boy 8-Bits hugely succesful remix of "Anyway you choose to give it" I was glad when the rest of the album featured video game-esque synths and bleeps and that is evident here. I'm a huge fan of Damon Albarn and althoughI find him a little unnessary on this track, he does complement Simon Lords vocals well. Personally it isn't dark enough for me so I was excited when I found out the single features remixes from RAC, Phones, Diplo, Laidback Luke, and Emperor Machine. The Diplo and Laidback Luke versions don't offer much, but the Phones (Paul Epworth) mix is exciting and dark. The Emperor Machine mix is probably the most successful though and the funked up bass line adds a new dimension to the original.

The Somewhere in the Universe club night in Brighton has always attracted some superstar DJs at the Ocean Rooms, so I hope they still reel 'em in at their new spot at New Hero every Friday. If you're from Brighton and have never heard of New Hero it's because it's just changed names/owners from what used to be The Church and Club New York before that. It was a small dingy venue so I hope they've spruced it up a bit. I notice that Little Boots, whom I blogged a few weeks back, is playing there on the 19th September too.

The Saturday spot also looks promising with DANCE DANCE DEATH; a night which features some great DJs on rotation. From Skint's own Midfield General through to one of my faves Punks Jump Up who, amongst other things, created one of my favourite T-Shirts (see above).

Sorry it's been a while. The last few weeks I've been to Belgium for my 3rd annual Pukkelpop festival and also just up the road for the Brighton and Hove's 1st Beachdown festival.

This weekend I wasn't spared either as I attended the wedding of my good friends Will and Gail. I had a half hour set which comprised of the following dance floor classics (which went down very well I might add):

Tenori-On + Little Boots = Stuck On Repeat

It was the Fake Blood remix of Stuck On Repeat which first got me into Little Boots (also the lead singer of Dead Disco). But it's the interesting post on her youTube channel which has me awe struck. The flashy LED instrument she uses looks like it came from the set of TRON. The TENORI-ON (it even sounds like TRON) is billed as the "The digital music instrument for the 21st century." And judging by Little Boots' performance it doesn't disappoint.

"Media artist Toshio Iwai and Yamaha have collaborated to design a new digital musical instrument for the 21st century, TENORI-ON. A 16x16 matrix of LED switches allows everyone to play music intuitively, creating a "visible music" interface."

I want one! Even if I'll never work out how to turn the fucker on. Little Boot's EP Meddle is out on the 11th August and is produced by Joe Hot Chip.

I'm a huge fan of the John Carpenter classic 1988 film "They Live" staring Rowdy Roddy Piper against aliens disguised as humans. So when I found out breakbeat/electro peeps Evil Nine are basing their next album on said film, I couldn't help but get over-excited. It's not released until September, but there's a few tracks posted on Discobelle's site.

I frickin love robots. A friend of mine Tom Welland sent me a link to ~~robot porn~~ loads of old school robots, which reminded me of one I had as a kid called George. You could programme this little guy to go forward a preset amount, rotate, go sideways, reverse, tidy your room* etc. He was amazing and may have started my love affair with robots.

I regularly check Antony Micallef's website as his work never seems to stop impressing me. Ever since he packed in his regular day job sat opposite me at Epic, I'd always wondered if he'd do ok. Well, when collecters include Angelina and Brad and even Damien Hirst I think the answer to that is a resounding yes.

I love the new Bloc Party song it's much better than their last tune. Like Flux though it has no guitars, but it does have the usual trademark drumming and there's even trumpets and a dirty bass noise kicking in half way through. Mercury can be heard on Zane Lowe's site here.

Apparently Sex with Robots is a club night at the Roadhouse in Manchester but I just love the name and flyer. I also stumbled across The Consoles' photo blog which includes said night and is a great example of how to do club photography well. I spent a whole evening firing off shots with my Lomo LC-A and coloursplash flash on Saturday, only to find this morning I'd ripped the film whilst rewinding it. Arse.

Take the singer from Simian and DJ Touche formerly of the wiseguys and add lots of scary costumes and you get the Black Ghosts who release their first LP today. This duo created one of my favourite tracks of last year "Anyway you choose to give it" which you can download by clicking the banner below. The boy 8-bit remix is also worth a listen.

Paddle round the Pier festival

If you happen to be in the Hove Lawns area over the weekend you wont help but be caught up in this charity event. Paddle round the Pier has been going for over 10 years now, and maybe this year I'll actually dust off my board and take part. If you do go please show some love to my friends Carlo Sandblow who are on around 2pm on the Sunday. Oh and don't forget your wetsuits as this weekend's been forecast as showers and heavy winds. That's Summer over then.

Geek Stock

Seeing Cut Copy tonight at the Concorde 2 which I'm really excited about. I will let you know how that goes as soon as I recover. On a similar live music note (excuse the pun) the charity event Geek Stock will be at the Albert in Brighton on Friday 11th July. Close freinds of mine My Deaf Audio will be covering Nada Surf (who blew me away earlier in the year at the Skala) and another band Poindexter will be covering one of my all time favourite bands Weezer. It's my birthday weekend too so it should be good. I designed the posters/flyers for the gig which I'm semi-happy with, they were a bit rushed so don't judge.
Also it's worth mentioning that all proceeds going to the Disasters Emergency Committee Charity for the Myanmar (Burma) Cyclone Appeal. You can also donate using this form here.

Boring by the Sea

Brighton's own Blood Red Shoes have been added to the Pukkelpop festival in Belgium next month so to celebrate check out Blamma Blamma's excellent remix of Getting Boring by the Sea.
If you haven't heard of Pukkelpop it's been going for 23 years and I've been to the last 3. It's smaller in scale to Glastonbury, a darn site cheaper than any festival in the UK and has a great mix of rock, indie and electro. After seeing Soulwax and Bloc Party up close and personal a few months ago, I can't wait to see them again with the likes of: Sigur Ros, The Cribs, The Breeders, Boys Noize, SebAstian, Simian Mobile Disco, Does it offend you, yeah? Midnight Juggernauts and Uffie to name but a few.

Gianni Rossi has created some amazing gig posters including this one for Justice. I'm also trying to get hold of a Daft Punk one he's designed to add to my collection. [EDIT: IF you contact Gianni he is selling numbered and signed 50x70cm (Around A1) prints for 25 Euros each and 8 Euros p&p. I've ordered Daft Punk on white and the Justice one above.]
Also, whilst I'm on the subject of gig posters the aptly named gigposters.com has a great collection of errr... posters from gigs. They're not particularly hi-res but there are links to purchase some of them as prints and links to the designers website and email.

I recently got this awesome print from the inspirational illustrator Yurievi Ledesma of popwhore to complete my living room shrine to Daft Punk. I now have the Daft Punk table, neon lights, interstella 555 toys, a small collection of robots and Daft Punk - Technologic (Digitalism's Highway to Paris Remix) blaring out at every given opportunity. The popwhore site is also a great blog listing music and cool graphics and if you like the designs you can order the prints from posterlounge.

I've already mentioned that I'm seeing the Presets tonight and whilst checking out the supporting Blah Blah Blah DJs I found this great track by Disco Trash Music: Hacksaw Lover rated as one of their top tunes. I hope they play it.

Apolcalypso now

I meant to start this blog whilst I was travelling Australia, but I ended up being way too preoccupied with more out-door related activities and not bothering. So now I'm back working full-time what better way to procrastinate? And while I'm on the subject of our antipodean cousins; I'm off to see the Presets on Friday. Their new album Apocalypso (nothing to do with Mel Gibson's film or the ice lolly Calypso) was sent to me by my Australian mate Cayle this week and it's already one of my favourites of the year so far. Swirling 80s synths, haunting vocals and electro beats. Love it x
